Overview

Explore one of Finland’s most iconic winter landscapes on a guided day hike in Riisitunturi National Park. The park is famous for its snow-covered spruce forests, sculpted by heavy frost into dramatic shapes, and for its wide, cinematic views over Lake Kitkajärvi. Riisitunturi is a destination people travel to specifically for its unique winter scenery, often seen in photographs and films of Lapland.

Your day begins with pickup from Rovaniemi, followed by a drive to the national park. Once there, your guide leads you along selected scenic trails that highlight the area’s most characteristic views. The route and pace are adapted to current weather and trail conditions to ensure a safe and enjoyable hike for participants with normal fitness.

During the hike, there is time to stop at panoramic viewpoints to take in the surrounding landscapes and capture photos of the snow-laden trees and open fell scenery. We take a longer break at a scenic spot, where hot drinks and light snacks are served, allowing you to rest, warm up, and enjoy the atmosphere before continuing the hike.

Throughout the day, your guide shares information about the park, local nature, wildlife, and the conditions that create Riisitunturi’s famous winter landscapes. This experience offers a clear, well-paced introduction to one of Lapland’s most visually striking national parks, combining iconic scenery with a guided and accessible outdoor experience.

A calm and scenic winter hike

The whole trip was amazing. The views were spectacular, something we’ve never seen before. The snow laying calmly on the trees, beautiful sunrise and sunset view. Lunch was really tasty, hot chocolate was 10/10. And finally super kind, communicative guides we had pleasure to meet. 100% recommend this trip!!
